In a shocking incident at Brazil's central city of Goiania, a 14 year old school student opened fire inside the classroom killing two of his classmates and injuring four others.
The unfortunate incident of shooting happened on Friday at Colegio Goyases, a private school. The teenager who committed this crime has been taken into custody.
Brazilian police sources say that the boy was using his father's 0.40 mm calibre pistol. The father is a police officer. As per accounts of a fellow student who had a narrow escape said that the boy was bullied by others and that he stank because he did not use deodorant.
According to eye witness' account, the boy took out the gun from his backpack and began shooting randomly thereby putting roughly 30 students in a panic situation.
Brazilian police is further investing the matter.
Gun lisence law in Brazil
The average age of owning a firearm in Brazil is 25 and to carry a gun outside residence is illegal. Even law enforcement officers requires special permission to carry gun outside residence.
The owner must hold a gun license, which costs BRL R$1000, and pay a fee every three years to register the gun, currently at BRL R$85.
Registration can be done online or in person with the Federal Police. Until 2008, unregistered guns could be legalized for free.
As on 2014, approximately 60,000 people were killed due to firearms. It is said that Brazil is one of the world's deadliest places outside Syria.
