Brazil's recently elected President, Michel Temer, was booed at an annual military parade on 7th September in the capital Brasília. At the heavily policed ceremony, the protesters shouted the slogan "Out with Temer!". Meanwhile the loyal supporters of Temer applauded the new leader.

Temer, who took over as the new  president after his rival Dilma Rousseff's removal from office in an impeachment trial, ditched the traditional open top Rolls Royce used for the parade, instead using a closed presidential vehicle. Temer also broke the usual norm of wearing the sash over his dark suit.

The military parade in the center of Brasilia kicked off nationwide events marking Brazil's September 7 Independence Day. However impeached president Rousseff, an unpopular leftist leader found guilty by the Senate of breaking accounting laws garnered support from his loyalist across the country.

On 7th September evening, Temer attended the opening of the Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Temer, who has been depicted as an extremely unpopular leader, promises to usher in an era of major economic reforms to bring Brazil out of the clutches of its deepest recession since the 1930s.
