Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was evacuated from an election rally at least two rockets were fired from Gaza towards Ashdod and Ashkelon on Tuesday night. However, minutes after he was spirited away from the campaign event, Netanyahu returned to the stage to continue his speech.
Security forces are still searching for more fallen rockets, but report that just two rockets appear to have been fired from Gaza, and not five, as first reported earlier.
One rocket headed toward the southern coastal city of Ashdod and was intercepted by an Iron Dome missile.
When the rocket siren sounded during Netanyahu’s speech at a campaign rally in Ashdod, the prime minister urged his audience to “quietly, quietly leave the area,” footage of the event shows. He is then led away from the area by his security detail.
The campaign was being carried live on Likud’s Facebook page.
