Six Pakistani paramilitary personnel killed by Taliban in Balochistan

Heavily armed Taliban terrorists attacked a remote security check post in Pakistan's restive Balochistan province, killing at least six paramilitary personnel and wounding over a dozen others, an official said on Wednesday.

The Pakistani Taliban -- known as Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan -- claimed responsibility for the attack which took place in the mountainous Lal Khattai area of Ziarat district. The terrorist organisation said in a statement in Urdu that the attack was in retaliation to several deaths of its activists by the paramilitary forces.

Qadir Bakhtakani, Ziarat district deputy commissioner, said the militants started the operation late night and exchange of fire continued for a while.

"They attacked a Levies checkpoint and came heavily armed," he said. An investigation into the killing of six soldiers was underway, he said, adding that the injured have been shifted to different hospitals.

Several terror groups operate in Baluchistan, including the Pakistani Taliban which continues to target security forces and installations in the province.

Last month, they killed six frontier corp personnel in the Kech district of Baluchistan after ambushing a convoy.
