British man sent to jail for having sex with corpse in funeral home

A man was jailed for six years after the Birmingham Crown Court found him guilty of Necrophilia. The convict identified as Kasim Khurram was sentenced to the jail term on Friday. The 23-year-old had admitted the offence, the Birmingham Police said in a statement. The resident of Kenilworth Road area was arrested last year in December after he broke into the Co-op funeral parlour in Great Barr disturbing some of the corpses, searching the property and stealing jewellery on November 11. DCI John Askew from force CID, said: “This is an horrendous and disturbing act. Our thoughts remain with all those who have been affected by this crime.”

The convict had pleaded guilty during previous hearing. "You set about disturbing all nine of these bodies -- exactly what you did, and why, only you know," judge Melbourne Inman was quoted as saying by Agence France-Presse.

"I am not aware of - and nor have I been able to find - any similar case. It would be difficult to think of a greater depravation of the dignity of the dead," judge Inman was quoted as saying by BBC. Defence lawyer Joseph Keating said Khuram was "deeply sorry" for what he had done and that his actions were "out of character".

During investigation, the police had found that Khurram was showing signs of "drug-induced psychosis". According to a BBC report, Khurram was seen crying during the sentencing. The convict was termed as ‘monster’ by the victims’ families.

Following sentencing the judge told Khurram he will have to register as a sex offender for 10 years.
