Coronavirus: British Prime Minister Boris Johnson Tests Positive For COVID-19, Goes Into Self-Isolation

Boris Johnson confirmed he had developed mild symptoms such as a temperature and persistent cough over the last 24 hours. He took a test on the advice of the chief medical officer which returned positive for coronavirus.

Boris Johnson, the prime minister of United Kingdom, has tested positive for coronavirus. Johnson posted a video on Twitter confirming his COVID-19 positive status. In the video, Johnson confirmed he had developed mild symptoms such as a temperature and persistent cough over the last 24 hours. He took a test on the advice of the chief medical officer which returned positive for coronavirus.

In the video, Boris Johnson said he is self-isolating and working from home. He said he will continue to lead the national fightback against the virus thanks to "the wizardry of modern technology".

Johnson wrote on Twitter, "Over the last 24 hours I have developed mild symptoms and tested positive for coronavirus. I am now self-isolating, but I will continue to lead the government’s response via video-conference as we fight this virus. Together we will beat this. #StayHomeSaveLives"

Downing Street, the official residence of the Prime Minister, issued a statement saying, "After experiencing mild symptoms yesterday, the Prime Minister was tested for coronavirus on the personal advice of England’s Chief Medical Officer, Professor Chris Whitty. The test was carried out in No 10 by NHS staff and the result of the test was positive."

"In keeping with the guidance, the Prime Minister is self-isolating in Downing Street. He is continuing to lead the government’s response to coronavirus," a Downing Street spokesperson was quoted as saying by The Guardian. (With Agency Inputs)
