Coronavirus: 100-Year-Old Discharged From China Hospital, Becomes Oldest Patient To Beat Deadly Outbreak

New Delhi:

Amid coronavirus outbreak and maximum casualties being reported from China, a 100-year-old Chinese man fully recovered from the deadly virus becoming the oldest patient to survive the illness. The patient, a centenarian, celebrated his birthday last month and was discharged from a hospital in Wuhan, Chinese state news agency Xinhua reported. He was taken to Hubei Maternity and Child Health Care hospital on March 24 with coronavirus infection, the report added.

The elderly man was kept on antiviral medication and was also treated with conventional Chinese medicine. On Saturday, he along with 80 other patients of coronavirus, was cleared to leave the hospital.

Moreover, China on Monday reported 22 new deaths from the deadly coronavirus, the lowest number of fatalities in more than a month, taking the death toll to 3,119. The new confirmed cases have hit a record low to 40, prompting authorities to close 11 temporary hospitals at the virus epicentre in Wuhan.

On Monday, China’s National Health Commission, (NHC) said it received reports of 40 new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus, the lowest number of fresh cases since it started reporting the data in January, and 22 deaths on Sunday on the Chinese mainland.

Meanwhile, China has begun dismantling a host of temporary hospitals built-in big public places like auditoriums and sports complexes in Wuhan set up during the massive surge of virus cases in January and February.

In February, China built two makeshift hospitals with 2,300 beds capacity in just about 10 days. Later, it started to convert public buildings into hospitals to meet the rush of patients due to coronavirus epdidemic.

As the number of patients continues to drop, two makeshift hospitals were suspended on Sunday in Wuhan, the epicentre of the novel coronavirus outbreak, local officials said.
