The death toll from the earthquake and tsunami that hit the central island in Indonesia have crossed the mark of 1,424, said Indonesia’s disaster agency. Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, spokesman for the National disaster agency handed out the updated figure on Thursday at a press conference in Jakarta.
The earthquake and tsunami struck Palu and nearby areas in Central Sulawesi province last Friday.
Nugroho said many victims are still buried under the debris and their bodies are yet to be recovered.
