Donald Trump pulls US from G7 joint statement, accuses Trudeau of 'dishonesty'

Accusing Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of 'dishonesty', Donald Trump on Sunday dramatically pulled the US out of a joint statement at the end of a G7 summit in Canada over trade row.

“Based on Justin’s false statements at his news conference, and the fact that Canada is charging massive Tariffs to our US farmers, workers and companies, I have instructed our US Reps not to endorse the Communique,” Trump tweeted.

Trump, who was on his way to Singapore for a summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, also issued warnings that the US was mulling to impose tariffs “on automobiles flooding the US market”.

The US president accused the Canadian prime minister of acting "so meek and mild” in their joint discussions only to later pledge in a press conference that he would not be pushed around.

"PM Justin Trudeau of Canada acted so meek and mild during our G7 meetings only to give a news conference after I left saying that, “US Tariffs were kind of insulting” and he “will not be pushed around,” Trump said in a series of tweets.

"Very dishonest & weak," he said, adding that the recently imposed US tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum were in response to Canada's 270 per cent on American dairy products.
