The Donald Trump leadership cut short its annual limit on refugee acceptances on Monday for the second consecutive year, stating that the United States would take only 30,000 refugees from the coming fiscal year. The limit, which is now at 45,000, ends on September 30. However, the limit is higher than the calculated number of refugees resettled in the previous year – estimated to be below 21,000.

“The improved refugee policy of this administration serves the national interest of the United States, and expands our ability to help those in need all around the world,” said Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
