World Earth Day is an annual event being celebrated every year on April 22. People across the world organise various events to demonstrate support for environmental protection. It takes a step forward towards the preservation of planet across the globe.
From planting trees to cleaning up their respective locale, several concerned organisations come out to streets to reaffirm their support for protecting the environment. It is considered to be the largest secular world event and now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network.
Earth Day, being celebrated first in 1970, events in more than 193 countries.
Earth Day 2018 Theme:
This year the theme of Earth Day celebration is 'End Plastic Pollution'. "Earth Day 2018 is dedicated to providing the information and inspiration needed to fundamentally change human attitude and behaviour about plastics," according to Earth Day Network.
Aim of End Plastic Pollution:
End Plastic Pollution aims to lead a worldwide grassroots movement, which will focus on regulating plastic pollution. Several concerned authorities across the world will educate, mobilise and activate citizens to control and clean up pollutions. Governments and corporations should also take necessary steps to tackle plastic pollution. Moreover, people need to take personal responsibilities for plastic pollution by choosing to reject, reduce, reuse and recycle plastics.
Importance and Significance of Earth Day:
In 1970, US Senator Gaylord Nelson rallied the support of millions of Americans to increase awareness among common public for a Greener and Cleaner Future.
