Emmanuel Macron has been elected as the president of France, by winning 65.1 percent of the vote to defeat far-right leader Marine Le Pen.
39-year-old centrist, Emmanuel Macron who is set to be the youngest President of France, termed his victory as a new chapter of 'hope' for France.
“A new chapter in our long history begins tonight. I want it to be one of hope and renewed confidence, ” Macron told AFP after winning the historic French election.
According to estimates, Macron won between 65.5 and 66.1 percent of the vote ahead of far-right Marine Le Pen on between 33.9 percent and 34.5 percent.
After the winning French vote, Macron has a 'cordial' call with his counterpart Le Pen.

The win of Macron would plunge the EU into a fresh crisis as during the campaign, the Front National figurehead had pledged to close borders and withdraw France from the euro zone and scrap trade treaties.
