Five school students drowned in a river in south-eastern Bangladesh when they went for swimming after a friendly football match, according to media reports on Monday.
"Twenty-two schoolboys played a friendly football match on Saturday after dividing themselves between supporters of the two South American teams," local police chief Bakhtiar Uddin Chowdhury said.
After the match, six of the boys from the school in Cox's Bazar district, went for swimming in the Matamuhuri River. And five of them were swept away by the strong current of the river, Chowdhury said.
Their bodies were found on Saturday evening and their funeral held on Sunday.
