New Delhi:

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is suffering from ailing health and is 'on the verge of kidney failure’, Pakistan media reported on Sunday.

Due to the lack of high-quality medical facilities, a medical board has recommended for his immediate transfer from Adiala jail in Rawalpindi to a hospital.

The urea nitrogen in Nawaz Sharif’s blood has climbed up to critical levels, his heartbeat is irregular and he is suffering from excessive sweating and dehydration, a leading Pakistani media house reported.

It is urgent to take him to the hospital as the Adiala jail hospital does not have a facility where Sharif could be given intravenous fluid and failing to do so could create emergency at night, according to the report.

The Pakistan government is likely to announce a decision soon.

As per reports, a medical board has examined Sharif on Sunday.

On July 6, Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz were convicted in relation to the Avenfield reference case.

Sharif was sentenced to ten years of jail, while daughter Maryam was handed eight years of jail time.

On July 13, the father-daughter duo was taken to Islamabad by a chartered flight soon after they had arrived at Lahore, from where they were taken to Adiala jail in Rawalpindi.
