The New York police on Wednesday said that a 48-year-old US man has been charged with hate crime after pummeling an Asian man in the face. While beating, he repeatedly shouted “We are white power…Go back to your country! What are you doing here?,” police further said.
The incident happened on Monday at the Third Avenue in New York when the accused Steven Zatorski started kicking the 30-year-old man.
Zatorski who lives in a lavish condominium in the Flatiron District screamed at the victim, “Go back to your country! What are you doing here?” police was quoted as saying by the New York Daily.

Eye witnesses then alerted the New York police department, who then arrested the attacker. According to court records, he was charged under the hate crime section and was taken to Rikers Island wherein he got bail at a bond of USD 5,000.
It is to be noted that since Donald Trump has become the President of the United States, the incidents of hate crimes and harassment have been increased drastically. According to a report by South Asian Americans Leading Together (SAALT), around 140 incidents of hate violence and 67 instances of xenophobic political rhetoric have been reported in the US against the South-Asian community.
