New Delhi:

The Trump administration on Tuesday brought hundreds of thousand people under scanner for deportation as the administration has rewritten immigration enforcement policies. The new norms include people simply arrested for traffic violations.

According to Homeland Security Department memos, signed by Secretary John Kelly, if an immigrant who is in the country illegally and is charged or convicted of any crime, or even suspected of a crime, will now be on priority for deportation. The new norms also include people arrested for shoplifting or minor offenses, or simply having crossed the border illegally.

Making immigration policy tougher, the Trump administration is keeping a close eye on immigrants who have been convicted of serious crimes, are considered threats to national security or are recent border crossers.

During Obama administration guidance, immigrants, who were not liable to stay in the country, categorized into two sections: those who crossed the border without permission and those who overstayed their visas.
