As many as 28 people were killed in two separate road accidents in Egypt on Saturday. The victims were textile workers and several Asian tourists including an Indian national.

According to the state-run Al-Ahram newspaper, the accident occurred when a bus transporting textile workers collided with a car on the road between the cities of Port Said and Damietta in northern Egypt. In the unfortunate accident, 22 people who worked for a clothing factory were killed and eight others injured.

Earlier in the day, two buses carrying tourists crashed into a truck in Egypt's Suez governorate. The buses were traveling to each-resort town Hurghada when one of them hit the truck on Sokhna-Zafarana Road, followed by the second bus also crashing in, local media reported. At least 6 people were killed including an Indian man, two Malaysians, and three Egyptians. Also, more than 20 people including Indian and Malaysian nationals were injured.

The Indian embassy in Cairo also apprised with an accident on Twitter. "Bus accident with 16 Indian tourists on board occured today near Ain Sokhna in Egypt. Embassy officials are at hospitals in Suez city and Cairo. Helpline numbers +20-1211299905 and +20-1283487779 are available," Embassy tweeted.

In 2018 there were 8,480 road accidents compared with 11,098 the previous year, according to the bureau of statistics. Deaths from traffic accidents fell from more than 5,000 in 2016 to 3,747 the following year and 3,087 in 2018, official figures show.
