New Delhi:

An Iranian passenger plane with 66 people on-board crashed in Zargos mountains in the southern part of Iran on Sunday. All the passengers are feared to have been killed in the crash.

The plane reportedly lost air control and ‘disappeared from radar’. The plane was flying from Tehran to Yasuj in the southwest.

The plane crash took place near the city of Semirom, Isfahan Province, Pir-Hossein Kolivand, head of Iran’s Emergency Medical Services told the agencies. He said, “This plane has crashed in the Semirom area and all emergency forces are on alert. The plane had 50 to 60 passengers.”

The number of casualties is expected to be high but there is no official confirmation yet. The plane left Tehran's Mehrabad International Airport at 5:00 local time (1:30 GMT) and disappeared from radar screens after a while.

The plane came down in the Zagros mountain range near Semirom while flying from Tehran to Yasuj. An emergency spokesperson said, “All emergency forces are on alert.”

The plane, which was an ATR 72, was operated by Iran Aseman Airlines.
