A blind Indian immigrant, Dina Simata was chosen among 14 other people to light the torch at 69th independence day celebrations of Israel. Simata's roots are based in Manipur and she is a member of the Bnei Menashe community which hails from the state. The 19-year-old is a student and volunteer at Jerusalem's Institute for the Blind.
She is a brilliant singer and also leads a group of disabled children at the Shalva institute. Further, she has also performed in the company of various famous singers. Dina had been chosen for her amazing contribution to the society and thanked the institute's staff for the recognition.

Israel celebrated its Independence Day on Monday while remembering the 23,544 men and women who died defending the country and the pre-state Jewish community since 1860.
