Lahore HC directs Pak govt not to arrest Mumbai attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed

New Delhi:

The Lahore High Court on Wednesday directed the Pakistan government not to put Mumbai attack mastermind and Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed under house-arrest or arrest him till further orders.

The Mumbai terror mastermind  on January 23 had moved to the Lahore High Court  challenging his possible arrest by the Pakistan government.

Saeed in his writ petition stated that he and his allies were detained by Pakistan government on being pressurised of US and India.

The JuD chief stated further that Pakistan government could not provide any proof against him in the court of law.

The counsel representing Pakistan government seeked more time to submit their replies. Lahore High Court Judge Ameenuddin Khan has directed the counsel for Pakistan government to file a reply by April 4.

Saeed is accused of masterminding the a terror attack in Mumbai on November 26, 2008. More than 150 people were killed in the attack and at least 250 people were injured.

While, the United States has designated Saeed as a global terrorist and announced USD 10 million on his head.

Pakistan government had kept Saeed in house arrest since January, 2017. He was released form the arrest last year in November.

Seminaries and health facilities run and managed by Saeed were raided by Pakistan security forces in February after UN team visited the country earlier this year  to review the progress against individual and groups banned by the UN.
