A man near the UK Parliament was arrested by armed officers of Scotland Yard on Thursday after what has been described as a "knife incident".
Whitehall, the political heart of London which houses the Downing Street and other government buildings culminating in Parliament Square, and Parliament Street have been closed to traffic as Metropolitan Police continue its investigation.
"Man arrested in Westminster. No reported injuries. More information to follow,"
Met Police said in a statement.
There are unconfirmed reports of a number of knives having been found at the site of the arrest.
Westminster area of London remains on high alert since the terror attack on Parliament on March 22, which claimed five lives including terror suspect Khalid Masood.
