Nepal President Bidya Devi Bhandari and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on Saturday wished happiness, peace and prosperity for all citizens on Dashain, the biggest festival in the Himalayan country.
The unique customs and traditions of the people of different castes and ethnicities, groups, geographies and religious beliefs remain as the unparalleled treasures and cultural pillars of tolerance, President Bhandari said.
“Our festivals, which symbolise the unity in diversity and the nation as the common garden of all castes and creeds, have made a significant contribution to uniting the geographical, religious, racial, cultural and linguistic diversity and maintaining social amity, national unity and the common Nepali identity,” she said in her message.
Prime Minister Deuba, in his ‘Bada Dashain’ message, said the implementation of the Constitution framed by the elected representatives’ body was in the final phase, the peace process has almost reached to its conclusion and political stability has been just achieved in the country.
Ex-King Gyanendra Shah wished all Nepalis within the country and abroad good health, happiness and success on Dashain, also known as Vijaya Dashmi.
In his message, the former monarch called for establishing the indigenous Nepali culture, traditions and moral norms and values while discouraging imported culture and religion.
“May Goddess Nawa Durga protect us all and may the mutual love, goodwill and respect among the Nepalis be revived,” he said.
