Pakistan allows Kulbhushan Jadhav to meet mother, wife on Christmas

Pakistan has finally agreed to facilitate the visit of Kulbhushan Jadhav’s wife and mother assuring India of their safety, security and free movement in the country, said EAM Sushma Sawraj.

Earlier, Pakistan had agreed to give visa only to the wife of Kulbhushan Jadhav, sentenced to death by a Pakistan military court on charges of espionage and terrorism.

A diplomatic officer of the Indian High Commission will also accompany the wife and mother of Jadhav during the visit, Swaraj said.

The visit will take place on December 25.

“I have spoken to Mrs. Avantika Jadhav mother of Kulbhushan Jadhav and informed her about this,” tweeted Swaraj.

Pakistan Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal said, “India has been notified of Islamabad's decision to allow Jadhav's wife and mother to visit him.”

Earlier in April this year, Indian national Kulbushan Jadhav was handed a death sentence by a Pakistani Field General Court Martial (FGCM).

Pakistan alleges that Jadhav was involved in espionage and sabotage activities in Karachi and Balochistan.

However, India denying the claim had knocked the door of International Court of Justice (ICJ) who has temporarily stayed the death sentence of Jadhav till the hearing completes.
