Pakistan coal mine explosion kills 4 miners, traps 13 on August 12, 2018 at Sanjdi near Quetta

At least four miners were killed and 13 others trapped as methane gas exploded in a coal mine near Quetta in Pakistan on Sunday, police said.

The blast took place on Sunday in the village of Sanjdi, about 50 kilometers (30 miles) east of Quetta, local police official Wajeet Khan said, according to the news agency AP.

Four bodies have been recovered, Khan said, adding that 13 other miners are missing and feared dead.

The gas leak hampered the rescue operations. According to reports, frequent mining accidents in Pakistan are often attributed to the poor enforcement of safety regulations.

The new prime minister of the country, perhaps, would have to address the issue and ensure safety regulations to prevent such recurrence.
