Pakistan Election Results: Terrorist Hafiz Saeed stands rejected

Despite their massive campaign, people of Pakistan completely rejected Mumbai terror attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed as Allah-o-Akbar Tehreek, a party backed by him, was trailing in all the National Assembly seats it contested in the 11th Pakistan general elections.

Saeed’s Mili Muslim League had fielded 72 candidates from the Allah-o-Akbar Tehreek (AAT) – a dormant political entity – as it was denied recognition by the Election Commission of Pakistan.

However, none of its candidates was seen anywhere near the victory and even failed to get a respectable number of votes despite massive political campaign-led by the Mumbai terror attack mastermind.

Not just that, Hafiz Talha Saeed, the son of the UN designated terrorist who contested from NA-91 seat from Sargodha (about 200-km from Lahore), the hometown of the Jamaat-ud Dawa leader, also failed to make his presence failed. Saeed's son-in-law, Khalid Waleed, who was a candidate from PP-167 also stood rejected.

Besides, hundreds of individuals linked with hardline and banned groups were competing in the polls but so far, according to the unofficial results, none of them was seen as winning a seat in the national or provincial assemblies.

Tehreek-e-Labaik Pakistan (TLP), a Sunni sectarian group, that had fielded more than 100 candidates also met the same fate as none of them came closer to victory, according to unofficial results.

Another religious party, Mutahida Majlis-e-Aml (MMA) was leading on only eight seats of national assembly despite massive campaign by its leader which included influential Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

Cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was leading in the slow count of 11th Pakistan general elections vote. With the lead in 115 seats, the PTI was well ahead of its closest rival Nawaz Sharif’s Pakistan Muslims League-Nawaz (PML-N). PML-N was distant second with a lead in just 63 National Assembly seats.
