New Delhi:

Former Pakistan Minister Nawaz Sharif’s wife Kulsoom Nawaz diagnosed with throat cancer will run for a seat in the parliament, a Pakistani official told the media.

Pakistani Information Minister Maryam Aurangzeb told the newspapers that Kulsoom is being treated at a London hospital and plans to return to Pakistan for the voting next month in Lahore.

He further told the media that Kulsoom is a courageous woman and has an early stage of cancer.

Earlier this month, Sharif’s ruling party — Pakistan Muslim League — had said that Kulsoom would take part in the election and would contest from the same seat left vacant — NA-120, Lahore.

Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique addressing the media said, "There is no plan to change the party's candidate for the NA-120 by-poll."

According to reports,  the couple's daughter, Maryam, is expected to run her mother's political campaign.

Sharif was forced to resign this July after the Pakistan Supreme Court disqualified him from office for not disclosing assets. Sharif had denied any wrongdoings.

Earlier this month, Sharif's ruling party said Nawaz would take part in the election, running for the same seat left vacant after her husband was disqualified from office by the Supreme Court for concealing assets.
