Pakistan President Arif Alvi issued notice by Twitter over Kashmir post, minister blames Modi govt

In what could be another big blow to Pakistan, Twitter on Monday issued a notice to its President Arif Alvi over his August 24 post on the prevailing situation in the Indian administrated Kashmir. In its notice to Arvi, the micro-blogging site said it had received a complaint against his account regarding a tweet highlighting India's "violations in occupied Kashmir". The company, however, could not identify any violations of its rules or applicable law and, therefore, did not take any action accordingly.

Taking to Twitter, President Arvi on Saturday shared a foreign media video showing clashes between locals and Indian security forces in parts of Srinagar, following India's revocation of Article 370, stripping the special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

"Clashes broke out in parts of Srinagar, in Indian-administered Kashmir, following Friday prayers. Angry protesters threw stones at Indian security forces while chanting freedom slogans. Indian security forces responded with tear gas," Arvi tweeted along with the video which he claimed of US-based news channel Associated Press (AP).

The Pakistani president further said he wanted the world to know that Kashmir has been violated by Indian bullets and boots. "They have raped and plundered a beautiful land and their people. Freedom is their cry from every tear shed and every drop of blood spilled," he wrote in another tweet.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Minister for Human Rights Shireen Mazari slammed the move by Twitter, saying that the micro-blogging site "has really gone too far in becoming mouthpiece of the rogue Modi govt"! "They sent a notice to our President! In bad taste and simply ridiculous," Mazari added, sharing a screenshot of an email received by Alvi from Twitter.

Pakistan Minister for Communication Murad Saeed has received a Twitter notice over one of his tweets that according to the micro-blogging site has violated Indian laws. Notably, Twitter has reportedly suspended 200 Pakistani accounts in recent past for commenting on the Kashmir situation.
