Pakistan used Jaish-e-Mohammed to carry out attacks in India, reveals Pervez Musharraf

New Delhi :

Former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf on Wednesday claimed that terrorist organisation Jaish-e-Mohammed, which operates from Pakistan, was used by the country’s intelligence agency ISI to carry out attacks in India during his tenure. Musharraf made the disclosure during a telephonic interview with Pakistani journalist Nadeem Malik in his talk show. The former Pakistan president also praised the action against Jaish-e-Mohammed by the Pakistani government, saying the group had tried to assassinate him twice in December 2003.

When asked why he didn’t take any action against the terror outfit during his tenure, Musharraf said, those were "different" times. He said not enough action was taken against the group and accepted that he too didn’t make enough efforts.

Jaish is a UN-sanctioned terrorist outfit, which has carried out several attacks across India. The group has also taken the responsibility of the February 14 Pulwama attack in which over 40 CRPF personnel were attacked.

The revelation by the former Pakistani president has come days after Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asif Ghafoor said that the terrorist organisation doesn't exist in the country.

"Jaish-e-Muhammed does not exist in Pakistan. It has been proscribed by the United Nations and Pakistan also. Secondly, we are not doing anything under anybody's pressure," he said even as Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi admitted that the terror outfit's chief Masood Azhar is present in the country.
