Philippines:‘Hazardous tsunami waves’ alert after 7.2 earthquake hit Sarangani province

A shallow 7.2-magnitude earthquake had struck offshore near Sarangani province early Saturday morning.The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the earthquake struck 57 kilometers southwest of Sarangani in Davao Occidental, at the depth of 57 kilometers.

But,there were no reports of casualties or damage. It measured at a depth of 10 km – 68 km south of the city of General Santos.

However, The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said the earthquake measured 7.2 but the US Geological Survey later downgraded the quake to 6.8.
