Prince Philip of United Kingdom has decided to step down from all public engagements starting from August, this year.

Rumour mill was buzzing about an important monarchy related decision since Thursday morning after a hush-hush meeting of royal staff in the Buckingham Palace in London.

The media, which descended on the Royal Palace in massive numbers, however, guessed it wrong as they speculated that perhaps there was something wrong with Queen Elizabeth II.

Official sources soon confirmed that there was “no cause for alarm” over the health of Queen Elizabeth II and her husband.

The meeting of royal staff was deemed “highly unusual” and thus prompted speculation of an imminent royal announcement. The palace officially declined to comment at the time.

The queen returned to London on Wednesday after spending the Easter break at Windsor Castle.

She met with Prime Minister Theresa May during the afternoon, to mark the dissolution of parliament ahead of the June 8 snap general election.

Her husband Prince Philip opened a new stand at Lord’s cricket ground. Prince Philip turned 95 this year.
