With a police cover thrown around her, a Hyderabad-based woman journalist began trekking to the Sabarimala hill on Friday morning. She had requested security to go to the Sannidhanam to carry out professional commitments. Another woman also began her climb to Lord Ayyappa's shrine in the morning.
If she successfully manages to climb the shrine then the journalist, who was in her late 20s as per reports, would be the first woman from the menstruating age group to visit the Sabarimala temple of Lord Ayyappa after the Supreme Court order permitting women of all age groups to enter the shrine.
On Thursday, a Delhi-based journalist with a foreign media outlet made an unsuccessful bid to visit the shrine.
The journalist accompanied by her male colleague, a foreigner, descended the hills from Marakkoottam area in the face of mounting protests. A case has been registered against devotees who allegedly prevented her trekking and forced her to climb down the hills.
