Shahid Afridi slams Indian media, says Kashmir under 'brutal' Indian occupation

New Delhi:

Former Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi on Wednesday slammed the Indian media for “misconstruing” his comment on Kashmir at the British Parliament, and said “Kashmir is unresolved dispute & under brutal Indian occupation”. Afridi’s comments came hours after the controversial cricketer had reportedly said "Pakistan doesn't want Kashmir…”

“My comments are being misconstrued by Indian media! I'm passionate about my country and greatly value the struggles of Kashmiris. Humanity must prevail and they should get their rights,” the 38-year-old cricketer tweeted.

“My clip is incomplete & out of context as what I said before that is missing.Kashmir is unresolved dispute & under brutal Indian occupation. It must be resolved as per UN resolution. Myself along with every Pakistani support Kashmiri freedom struggle. Kashmir belongs to Pakistan,” Afridi added.

A video in which Afridi is heard saying "Pakistan doesn't want Kashmir...Pakistan can't even manage its four provinces" is going viral on social media.

"I say Pakistan doesn't want Kashmir. Don't give it to India either. Let Kashmir be independent. At least humanity will be alive. Let people not die...Pakistan doesn't want Kashmir... It can't even manage its four provinces...What is the big thing is insaaniyat(humanity). People who are dying there, it is painful. Any death, be it from any community, is painful," Afridi was heard saying in a video posted on social media.

However, it was not the first time the Pakistan’s former hard-hitting batsman found himself in the middle of a controversy.

In April, Afridi had tweeted that there was an "appalling and worrisome situation" in Kashmir and urging the UN to intervene.

Hitting back at Afridi for his controversial comments on Kashmir, cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar had said that "India can very well manage its internal affairs" while batsman Suresh Raina asked the former Pakistan captain to advise his country's army that it stops supporting extremists for maintaining peace in the Valley.
