Former Pakistan speedster Shoaib Akhtar has said that Pakistan’s newly elected Prime Minister Imran Khan has the capability to make Pakistan the ‘Asian Tiger’.
"I believe that he can help Pakistan become Asian Tiger but the whole nation must stand by his side if we are to succeed," a Pakistani leading daily quoted Akhtar, as saying.
The 1992 World Cup winning skipper Imran Khan’s party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) emerged as the single largest party in the Pakistan general elections.
Talking about the recently concluded polls, Akhtar congratulated the party and hoped that he and his party would deliver results for the people.
"I would like to congratulate the entire nation and workers of PTI,” he said.
"I'm confident that Imran bhai will deliver in accordance with the expectations of the people of Pakistan," he added.
Legendary all-rounder Imran Khan founded his party, PTI, in 1996 and fought his first ever general election in 1997.
At that time, Khan failed to win a majority in any of the seven constituencies for which he stood in.
The party continued the ground work and started gaining popularity. In 2013, PTI emerged as the second largest party in the elections.
