The Sri Lankan navy on Wednesday night arrested eight Tamil Nadu fishermen on charges of fishing in the territorial waters of the country’s island.
The Fisheries Department Assistant Director Chandrasekhar on Thursday said that the navy personnel also seized two boats belonging to Pudukottai district’s Kottaipattinam on late Wednesday night. The arrested fishermen were taken to Kagesanthurai, Chandrasekhar added.
In another incident, a boat sunk off Neduntheevu coast and the four fishermen in it were rescued by fishermen in another boat and brought to the shore here early on Thursday, he said.
