A gunman and one victim were killed after a man shot 14 people, including a female adult, in the Toronto neighbourhood famously known as Greektown, the police said.

"One female adult has died and One young girl in critical condition," Toronto police said on Twitter, adding that all 14 victims were shot with a handgun late last night.

“Other than the shooter we have a young lady that is deceased,” Toronto police chief Mark Saunders said.

Saunders also said a young victim was in critical condition.

Police spokesperson Mark Pugash said that it was too early to call it as an act of terrorism, adding that the condition of the other victims was not known yet.

John Tulloch said that he and his brother heard about 20 to 30 gunshots on Sunday night as they got out of their car.

“We just ran. We saw people starting to run so we just ran,” he said.

An army of paramedics, police, and others rushed to the scene as residents of the area, some in their pajamas, emerged from their houses to see what was actually happening.

Toronto Councillor Paula Fletcher told CP24 she heard that the gunman was emotionally disturbed.

“It’s not gang related. It looks like someone who is very disturbed,” Fletcher said.

Councillor Mary Fragedakis also said she heard the gunman was disturbed.

Fletcher added that this incident to happen in a family-dinner area is a tragedy.

This past weekend Toronto police deployed dozens of officers to deal with a recent spike in gun violence.
