Trump gets sealed letter by Kim Jong-un via North Korean envoy, holds extended meeting at White House

US President Donald Trump on Friday met North Korean envoy Kim Yong Chol at the White House, who delivered a personal letter from North Korean leader Kim Jong-un to the president.         

The gist of the letter is yet to be clarified by the officials, but as per the Wall Street Journal, Kim Jong-un is believed to have shown eagerness in a summit meeting with Trump.

The meeting has been scheduled for June 12 in Singapore, as per reports.

The North Korean envoy, who is a close confidant of Kim Jong-un, arrived in Washington following two days of talks with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in New York.

Kim Yong Chol is expected to stay in the US till tomorrow, but the status of his sanctions are yet to be cleared. Till today, he was under US sanctions.

The North Korean official met a US president in the Oval Office after a span of 1 years.

North Korean military leader Vice Marshal Jo Myong Rok delivered a letter to then US President Bill Clinton at the White House in late 2000. Clinton was the first ever American president to meet a Pyongyang official since the 1950-55 Korean War.
