Described as the biggest diplomatic breakthrough of the 21st century, US President Donald Trump and North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un on Tuesday signed a “very comprehensive document” during their historic summit in Singapore and pledged to work towards complete denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula.

"We're signing a very comprehensive document, and we've had a really great time together, a great relationship," Trump said while signing the document along with Kim in the presence of media at the end of the historic summit.

Trump and Kim had an over 40-minute-long face-to-face meeting, with just a pair of translators only, which was followed by a delegation-level talks between the leaders.

When asked about the process of North Korea’s denuclearisation, the US president said that it will start “very quickly”.

However, Trump said that the sanctions on North Korea will not be taken off immediately but assured that they will be removed as soon as the US gets an assurance that the nukes are no longer a threat to the country.

"The sanctions will come off when we are sure that nuclear missiles are no longer a factor. I am looking forward to taking them off," Trump said after the meeting.

Terming the North Korean leader "smart", Trump said that those who chose peace are the most courageous people.

"Kim Jong Un has the chance to seize a better future for his country. Anyone can make war but only the most courageous can make peace," Trump said.

The 71-year-old US president also announced that America will stop holding military exercises on the Korean peninsula as Kim thought they were the provocation.

"The United States will stop holding military exercises on the Korean peninsula, after today's meeting," he added.
