UK election results 2017: Theresa May to pick cabinet amid Democratic Unionist Party talks

According to the British media reports, initial talks have begun with Northern Ireland’s Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) after the Conservatives failed to secure a majority in Thursday’s UK elections.

British Prime Minister Theresa May who suffered a major blow after her party failed to maintain its majority in the parliament will finalise her team of ministers later on Saturday as she seeks to form government with the support of Democratic Unionist Party.

According to the British media reports, initial talks have begun with Northern Ireland’s Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) after the Conservatives failed to secure a majority in Thursday’s UK elections.

The British political party needed 326 seats to win the majority but it fell short by 8 and could only manage to win 318, The Democratic Unionist Party won 10 seats.

The Labour party gaining huge won 262 seats has urged May to resign and make way for it to form the minority government. The party has also criticised May for DUP deal.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn attacked May after her party lost the majority and asked her to quit as PM.

"She wanted a mandate," he said, “well the mandate she has got is lost Conservative seats, lost votes, lost support and lost confidence. “I would think that’s enough to go, actually”.

A number of high-profile government figures including Philip Hammond and Boris Johnson have already confirmed they are keeping their jobs in the wake of an election that saw the Tories lose 13 seats.
