At least 20 to 30 rockets reportedly landed near Kabul International Airport on Wednesday, moments after US Defense Secretary Jim Mattis arrived there from India.

Rocket attack on Kabul International Airport moments after US Defense Secretary Jim Mattis arrival

After a rocket landed near Kabul’s international airport today shortly after US Defence Secretary Jim Mattis arrived in the Afghan capital for talks, three explosions were reported in a span of 25 minutes in the city.

“A rocket landed near the airport this morning. No casualties reported,” interior ministry spokesman Najib Danish said in a tweet.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility. 

At least 20 to 30 rockets reportedly landed near the airport. According to TOLO News, the rocket attack started at about 11.15am with eyewitnesses saying as many as ten were fired at the airport.

Reports have said that a number of rockets have landed at Hamid Karzai International Airport in the centre of Kabul. Officials say the airport is being evacuated and all flights are cancelled for now.
