An Egyptian zoo has denied allegations that it painted a donkey to make it look like a zebra after a photo of the subjected animal went viral.

A local student visited the International Garden municipal park in Cairo and spotted two ‘zebras’. He quickly posted photographs on his Facebook account showing the burro’s black ‘stripes’ smudged to their faces.

Apart from that, the student spotted the ‘zebras’ donkey ears.

Several vets have confirmed that the animals in question are donkeys and the paint job is clearly visible, several vets have confirmed, according to Egyptian media.

However, zoo director Mohamed Sultan insisted to Egyptian media that they are zebras, according to BBC.

This is not the first time that a zoo has been accused of painting donkeys as zebras. Earlier in 2009, a zoo in Gaza had painted two donkeys to make them look like zebras.
