Haryana Assembly Elections 2019: Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) chief Dushyant Chautala is likely to meet Union Home Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Amit Shah on Thursday, according to the reports. The development comes after Amit Shah indicated that BJP will stake claim to form the next government in Haryana after the assembly election results threw up a hung verdict.
According to the latest election commission figures, BJP was either winning or leading in 40 seats in the elections to the 90-member state assembly. Whereas, Dushyant Chautala’s JJP was leading on 10 seats in Haryana. Four Independent candidates have registered victory while three are leading in the race.
The Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) is ahead in just one seat of Ellenabad where Abhay Singh Chautala is the incumbent legislator. Haryana Lokhit Party (HLP) president Gopal Kanda registered a win from Sirsa seat.
As BJP and Congress, both are falling short of the majority mark of 46, JJP and the Independents will play a key role in government formation in Haryana.
While incumbent Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar won the Karnal Assembly seat, three BJP ministers -- Capt Abhimanyu, Kavita Jain, and Krishan Kumar Bedi -- lost and a few more were trailing way behind their rivals.
State BJP chief Subhash Barala lost Tohana seat. On the other hand, Assembly Speaker Kanwar Pal lost from his Jagadhri seat.
Earlier, in the day, senior Congress leader and former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda urged non-BJP outfits to join hands. Hooda had also alleged the administration was putting pressure on the Independents at the behest of the BJP and not allowing them to move freely.
It is worth mentioning here that most of the exit polls had predicted a comfortable victory for the BJP, which came to power for the first time on its own in Haryana in 2014.
