Hemant Soren Makes Controversial Remark, Says BJP Leaders 'Wear Saffron, Rape Women'
He Also Targeted Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Who Addressed Rallies In The Election-bound Jharkhand.
In a statement, which could trigger a controversy, former Jharkhand chief minister and JMM leader Hemant Soren said on Wednesday accused BJP leaders, wearing saffron, of outraging the modesty of women. He also targeted Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who addressed rallies in the election-bound Jharkhand.
Addressing an election rally in Pakur, Soren accused the BJP government in the state of failing on women's safety.
“Aaj desh mein bahut betiyon ko jalaya ja raha hain ... Mujhe pata chala ki idhar UP CM Yogi ji bhi chakkar laga rahe hain gerua pehen ke. Ye woh log hain BJP ke log jo shaadi kum karte hain lekin gerua pehen bahu-betiyon ki izzat lootne ka kaam karte hain (Today, daughters are being burnt alive across the country. I have come to know that UP CM Yogi ji are roaming here wearing his saffron attire. These are those BJP leaders who don’t marry, but outrage the modesty of women wearing the saffron).”
The JMM-led opposition coalition's chief ministerial candidate had earlier said the allies of the saffron party are deserting the “sinking ship” as they know which way the wind is blowing.
Soren, the working president of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), accused the BJP of raising emotive issues like nationalism to divert attention from their “misrule”, asserting that the election will be fought on state issues such as land acquisition and unemployment.
He is leading the opposition alliance comprising the JMM, the Congress and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). According to the alliance's seat-sharing arrangement, the JMM is contesting 43 seats, the Congress 31 and the RJD in seven constituencies.
