Akhilesh Yadav terms Yeddyurappa's resignation 'victory of people's mandate'; asks Modi govt to resign
Hours after BJP leader BS Yeddyurappa gave up as the Karnataka chief minister amidst the high-voltage political drama on Saturday, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav asked the Central government to resign on moral grounds.
Yadav termed the collapse of the day-old Yeddyurappa government a 'victory of the people's mandate' and said, "those who thought they could buy everyone have learnt the lesson".
"Today, the people's mandate has prevailed over money power," Yadav wrote on Twitter.
"There are still people left who don't consider politics a business," he tweeted.
"The central government should also resign on moral grounds," he added.
An emotional Yeddyurappa on Saturday resigned as the chief minister of the southern state ahead of the floor test, scheduled to take place at Karnataka Vidhan Soudha.

Celebrations and merriments have been witnessed at Congress party offices across the state after Yeddyurappa refused to face a trust vote on Saturday.
Senior Congress leader Pramod Tewari and his daughter Aradhana Misra have distributed sweets among party workers to cherish the moment.
"It's a victory of democracy," Tewari said amid the anti-BJP atmosphere across the country.
With Yeddyurappa resigned as the Karnataka CM, the Congress-JD-S combine is gearing up to form the government in the state. JD-S's HD Kumaraswamy, who has the backing of the Congress will take oath as the Karnataka chief minister on Wednesday.
