It’s been a wonderful 100th birthday gift for Thressiamma Chacko, as she is all set to caste her maiden vote in the ongoing Kerala polls on May 16. Chosen as Kannur’s poll mascot, centenarian Thressiamma has witnessed many elections, but has never got her finger inked till date.
For the first time, she expressed her desire to cast her vote in the polls. The district administration responded to her desire and came up with a novel idea of presenting her as a mascot so as to woo voters and inspire them to exercise their franchise.
Thressiamma, had recently applied for a voters' identity card at a government Akshaya centre at Kolakkad.
Kannur district collector P Bala Kiran himself presented her voters’ card to the centurion. The district administration officials also imparted a few lessons to her on how to use the voting machine.
