J-K urban local body polls: Third phase voting underway amid tight security, mobile internet suspended in Srinagar
Amid tight security, the fourth and final phase of the urban local body elections in Jammu and Kashmir is underway on Tuesday. High-speed mobile Internet services have been suspended in South and central Kashmir including Srinagar.
As many as 132 wards spread over six districts will go to polls in the final phase of the civic polls. Only 36 wards - 24 in Srinagar and 12 in Budgam in central Kashmir - will have polling as 52 candidates have been elected unopposed and none filed nomination papers for 44 wards, according to officials.

According to an Indian Express report, there will be no voting in Pattan in Baramulla district of north Kashmir, Pampore, Pulwama and Khrew in south Kashmir's Pulwama district, Shopian Municipal Committee in Shopian district and Dooru, Verinag in Anantnag. Not a single nomination paper was filed in any of the 13 wards of the Khrew municipal body in south Kashmir's Pulwama district.

Only a mere 3.4 per cent of the electoral voters turned out in the third phase of the urban local body polls in militancy-hit Kashmir Valley, whereas Jammu’s Samba district recorded a high turnout of 82 per cent, officials said on Saturday. The Uri town in Baramulla district recorded 75.34 per cent of turnout, squashing the recent trend of low polling in the first two of the four-phase elections following the boycott calls by the parties like the PDP, CPI (M) and the NC.
