The 2019 Lok Sabha Elections in West Bengal was in the headlines for many reasons. It was the first time that the state witnessed seven phases of polling. West Bengal was also in the news for high levels of political violence in the state. Each and every phase witnessed violence against both the BJP and the Trinamool Congress. In the end, Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress emerged victorious as they held their own in 22 seats but the Bharatiya Janata Party made massive inroads by claiming 18 seats, the highest-ever in their history in the state.
