After Being Mired With Controversies For A While Now, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Magnum Opus Padmaavat Has Finally Opened To An Amazing Start At The Indian Box Office.
After being mired with controversies for a while now, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus Padmaavat has finally opened to an amazing start at the Indian box office.
Reportedly, the movie, which stars Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor in the lead, has made a fantabulous business of 24 crores after release.
It is indeed a happy news for the makers given the period drama was released amidst violent protests in several parts of the country.
Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh took it to micro-blogging site Twitter to share the box office report of Padmaavat and said that the movie would have fared much better if it had a smooth release.
He wrote, "Despite non-screening in few states and protests/disturbances, #Padmaavat fares VERY WELL on Day 1... Had it been a peaceful/smooth all-India release, the biz would’ve touched ₹ 28 / ₹ 30 cr... Wed [limited preview screenings] 5 cr, Thu 19 cr. Total: ₹ 24 cr. India biz."
Taran further stated that Padmaavat is expected to have a rocking opening weekend as well and tweeted, "#Padmaavat is ROCKING today [26 Jan 2018; holiday]... Sat and Sun also expected to be HUGE."
Talking about Padmaavat, the movie revolves around Rajput Queen Padmavati who committed jauhar when Allauddin Khilji killed her husband Maharawal Ratan Singh.
The movie faced severe protests from fringe groups who alleged that Padmaavat distorts the historical facts and tarnish the image of the Rajput Queen.
It was alleged that the movie had a romantic dream sequence between Khilji and Padmavati which the makers denied to since the beginning.
The fringe groups not just protested against the movie but also demanded a ban on its release as well. However, Padmaavat saw the light of the day after Supreme Court passed the judgment in its favor.
With a decent start at the box office, it will be interesting to how this Bhansali directorial will fare in the opening weekend.
