Renowned director John G. Avildsen, who directed 'Rocky' and 'The Karate Kid' passes away on Friday. He was 81 at the time of his death. His son Anthony Avildsen confirmed the news of his death and said that the oscar winning director died of pancreatic cancer."He was a pretty extraordinary man in my estimation. He was super talented and very driven and very stubborn and that was to his detriment but also often to his benefit," Anthony was quoted sayin to WFAA.com.Avildsen had garnered huge success post teh release of Sylvester Stallone starrer 'Rocky' in 1976. He won the DGA Award for directing “Rocky,” which also won Oscars for best picture and film editing and was nominated in multiple other categories. Besides 'Rocky', Avildsen's 'The Karate Kid' was a big hit at the box office as well and won critical success too.Avildsen's last directorial was 1999 release 'Inferno' starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, Danny Trejo and Pat Morita.John Avildsen is survived by sons Anthony, Jonathan and Ashley; and daughter, Bridget.
