‘Justice to all,’ says Nirbhaya’s mother as Supreme Court upholds death penalty for rapists
The mother of the 2012 Delhi gang-rape and murder victim on Monday welcomed the Supreme Court’s verdict to uphold the death sentence to the three of four convicts.
"It is justice to all,” said Nirbhaya’s mother, who was present in the court during the hearing.
The apex court was hearing the pleas filed by three convicts - Mukesh (29), Pawan Gupta (22) and Vinay Sharma (23) – seeking reduction of their death sentence to life term.
The mother of the victim said that her “struggle does not end here” as justice was being delayed not just to her daughter but many others.
“Justice is getting delayed. It is affecting other daughters of the society. I request judiciary to tighten their judicial system, serve justice to Nirbhaya by hanging them as soon as possible and help others," ANI quoted her as saying.

On the intervening night of December 16-17, 2012, a 23-year-old paramedic student, who was given the pseudonym of 'Nirbhaya' (the one who has no fear), was gang-raped and brutally murdered by six men in a moving bus in south Delhi.
In the inhuman and brutal assault, the convicts had inserted an iron rod into her genitals and pulled her uterus out. She later succumbed to her injuries on December 29, 2012, at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore.
While one of the accused, Ram Singh, had allegedly committed suicide in the Tihar jail in Delhi, a juvenile walked free after serving a three-year term in a reformation home.
Four others – Mukesh, Pawan, Vinay and Akshay were convicted in the case and awarded death penalty by the apex court in May, 2017.
