2012 Maruti Suzuki factory violence case: Gurugram court convicts 31 people, lets off 117
A Case Was Filed Against 148 Workers Who Were Arrested On The Charges Of Murder Of Human Resource Manager Awanish Kumar At Manesar Plant On July 18, 2012.
The Gurugram district court on Friday convicted 31 persons in connection with the case of violence and death in a plant of auto major Maruti in 2012. The court let off 117 people in the similar case.
A case was filed against 148 workers who were arrested on the charges of murder of Human Resource manager Awanish Kumar at Manesar plant on July 18, 2012. Around 39 people were granted bail while 8 were behind te bars , including union members. Kumar was burnt alive.
The clash was taken place in the backdrop of the workers’ demand of having their union and three strikes in 2011 had derailed the production. They were also demanding union rights.
After the conclusion of arguments, Judge RP Goyal had posted the pronouncement of verdict on March 10.
